Youngest son, Dane, took over the winery operations from his parents and owners, Dick & Ome, and production outgrew its roots. Livermore became the new home of Page Mill Winery back in 2004. Best of 2020 Local Winery.

At the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Page Mill Winery was established in 1976. At the time, the creator, Dick Stark, was selling lasers around the world and would stroll through the Rheingau in Germany visiting small family wineries on his days off. He returned to California and recommended to Ome's wife that they change their lives.

Dick spent 28 days excavating a cellar below the family home on Page Mill Road in Los Altos Hills with his son, Eric, and Page Mill Winery was born. Dick started producing wines in the state from vineyards and developed up to 1,200 cases of production. He concentrated on small lots of wines designated by the vineyards.

To explore the family business, Dick's youngest son, Dane, took a semester off in 1989. He's been with the winery since college graduation. In 1996, Ome and Dick retired and moved to the Sierra Foothills at Twain Harte. Dane continued operations at the Los Altos Hills family house until a relocation became inevitable because of the physical constraints of the land. The winery moved to the serenity of the Livermore Valley in 2004. Output has risen to 3,500 cases, and in the tasting room, restaurants and retailers throughout the Bay Area, Page Mill wines can be purchased.

The environment at Page Mill is very pleasant and the staff are highly knowledgeable about each variety they pour out and will teach you as they go down the menu, offering a very intimate tasting. They also have a good enclosed patio area for anyone who would like to enjoy the chairs and couches with tables right outside the tasting room.

A very nice thing is that once a month they still have a BYOB where you can come and get a filled bottle for just $10. And what a steal! Put Page Mill winery to visit on your list!
