John Crellin planted vineyards in a red clay knoll in 1883 and named it Ruby Hill after the rich red soils found all over the farm. In 1887, with a capacity to produce 125,000 gallons of wine, the construction of Crelin's Winery Building was completed. By 1889, Ruby Hill Winery was one of the Livermore Valley's largest and most admired wine producers.
Today, eleven varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel, Sangiovese and Petite Sirah, are planted in our 150-acre vineyard.
A beautiful place to sample wine is Ruby Hill Winery. The staff is professional, compassionate, and down to earth. They have a very good variety of wines that are very good. They have just completed their second outdoor seating area, with fans and heaters, which is really cool. It is gorgeous. You can have a glass of wine, a bottle of wine, or just relax in a beautiful environment and enjoy the tasting. To make your visit complete, they have a small range of deli products. Highly suggested for couples, for girlfriends, or for our neighbors to be with us. Casual, delicious, reasonably priced, fun and beautiful!

The atmosphere is fun and friendly, but it has a professional edge. Based on each member of their party's taste buds, the wines were not all outstanding, but the overall approval included just about every wine we sampled. The environment and experience you will truly enjoy. In sharing his knowledge of the wines, the area, and local eateries, Rick was outstanding. He's going to make the experience great another notch.
