The Steven Kent Winery was launched in 1996 with one goal to make Cabernet here in the Livermore Valley that rivals the greatest red wines produced anywhere in the world in terms of quality.

The "Bordeaux" varietals, and particularly Cabernet Sauvignon, have a long, dedicated history of growing in the Livermore Valley. The promise of the Livermore Valley area began to be explored by pioneering winegrowers in the 1880s. Then as it is today, L.V.'s climate and soils closely resemble those of the famous left bank of the Gironde in Bordeaux. Livermore Valley was already well ahead of its Napa Valley neighbor by the turn of the last century in specializing in the Bordeaux strains. At Steven Kent, the objective is to continue the tradition.

The Premier is truly historic Cabernet." From each vintage, it is their single most distinctive 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon.

The vineyards of their "long-term relationship"; estates they know personally and have collaborated with for years. Just a few barrels make it into these limited, "terroir-driven" releases each year. Definitely, the SVS Cabernets speak to their unique individual piece of property.

On their Ghielmetti Estate Vineyard location, all five classical Bordeaux varieties are planted. We pick the finest Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec barrels and release each wine with a 100 percent bid. These wines are first assigned to the members of our BDX Collection and then available to the general public.

The classic White Bordeaux-style" blend is taken over by A New World. In a bright, crisp, refreshing, food-friendly white that pairs beautifully with many different cuisines, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillion merge.

The Home Ranch is an area of 5.6 acres planted on Tesla Road in the heart of Livermore Winery Row. Located at 610 feet above sea level and planted 600 feet deep on river bed gravel, the site was planted in 1996 at Cabernet and Sangiovese and in 1997 at Barbera. This vineyard is responsible for some of the most memorable wines we have produced.

In Positive/Negative, a 2000 vintage, 100 percent Cabernet, Clone 7 Cabernet from the Home Ranch made its way into the inaugural release of our Collector's Circle wine club. On the Vertical Shoot Position (VSP) system, this 2.8 acre block is trellised in order to maximize sun exposure, air flow, and fruit ripeness.

Like the Cabernet block, the 1.1 acre Sangiovese and 1.5 acre Barbera blocks are VSP and set out in a North-South orientation, 6 feet between rows and 6 feet between plants.
