Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park, west of the I-680 and Pleasanton Area, California, becamed its second-largest park in 1988 when the Regional Park District of East Bay acquired 1,700 acres. In 1980, a developer of real estate proposed the development of a golf course and a number of new homes on top of Pleasanton Ridge. Many voters of the city protested and in a referendum in 1983 rejected this proposition.

This beautiful parkland is on the oak-covered ridge overlooking Pleasanton and the Livermore Valley from the west. It is intended to become the center of a regional park in Ridgelands for several years to be acquired. The planning of parkland was purposely restricted to preserving the pastoral climate. The park is situated on and above Pleasanton Ridge. It is overflowing down Pleasanton Ridge to the north-western end of Stoneybrook Canyon into the upper Kilkare Canyons and up to Sunol Ridge at the western end of it. The height in the park is more than 1,600 meters.

Park Accessibility

Take the Castlewood Drive exit from the I-680 to Pleasanton and west. Take Foothill Lane, turn left (south), head towards Sunol city. On the right, approximately two miles from Castlewood Path, is the Foothill Staging Area. In the Foothill staging area there is one paved handicapped car park and a portable toilet accessible by wheelchairs. The two old redwood styles of beverages will cause a wheelchair to sink, but under these installations there is no smooth surface. This summer in a disabled parking area, the park will install an updated fountain for wheelchair users. There is a picnic table with two wheelchairs and next to the parking lot for the disabled.

The park's trails are mostly gravel trails with many purposes so that they are more suitable for electric wheelchair users. A multi-purpose trail system from the main stage area of Foothill Road can accommodate walkers, equinos and mountain bikers, offer canyon views and top panoramic views and provide access to remote, deep canyon streams.
